Tonight there was a wasp in my room so I watched it waiting for a good time to squish it (and debating whether I should squish it or catch it and let it out) but it flew onto my lamp. My lamp has a very thin stand so it was hard to squash the wasp on it so I watched it some more, ocasionally wafting something in its general direction to try to make it move. Shortly afterwards it decided to go farther up the lamp instead of off the lamp.
Eventually it stupidly went into the lamp itself which was swiftly followed by lots of buzzing sounds then an abrupt silence. I wasn't sure if it was still alive so I wobbled the lamp to see if it would come out, but all I heard was rattling sound.
I then tilted the lamp to look inside and lying inside was a dead wasp...
along with about 4 other dead wasps!
It seems I had had more wasp incursions than I had thought but they all had died in my lamp.
Then while writing this blog entry, I decided to check the other lamps in the apartment for corpses, only to find the main lamp in the living room COVERED in dead insects of all shapes and sizes.
Perhaps this is some intentional secret feature of IKEA lamps!
